Columbus Data Center and Co-location facilities

Led by our flagship Tier III data Center, E-Commerce Park in Curacao, Columbus operates a large and diverse array of carrier class co-location and Data Center facilities throughout the Pan Caribbean/Americas region. Columbus subsea fiber optic reach to 27 countries, including seamless onward connectivity to major city centers over Layer 1 Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transport, carrier Ethernet and a dedicated Layer 2 meshed MPLS platform, combine to ensure these facilities offer customers best in class security, reliability and scalability for virtually any data center and co-location application. This includes housing Network Access Points (“NAP”), private IP peering, global and regional carrier Point’s of Presence (“POP’s”), cloud virtualization application servers, data backup, storage area networks, and a variety of other services that demand high availability and large bandwidth in a secure, hardened environment.

All Columbus facilities used for co-location or data center applications are designed to provide the highest standards of reliability and performance with N+1 redundancy such as A and B diverse power supply, back up UPS, dual generators, and resilient switched IP core backbones. The two principle business units of Columbus Communications, FLOW and Columbus Networks, maintain one of the largest telecom facility footprints in the region with 34 cable landing stations, dozens of metro city nodes and core network POP’s. These facilities, combined with our back office Operational Support Systems (“OSS”) platforms, including network monitoring management systems, position Columbus as a provider of choice for the carrier and enterprise communities requirements for hosted and managed services needs across the entire Pan Caribbean/Americas region.

Columbus International Data Center - E-Commerce Park (“ECP”)

Strategically nestled just south of the infamous ‘Caribbean hurricane zone’ in the Dutch Antilles island of Curacao, this facility is situated on a unique 79,000 sq. foot campus setting, providing world-class data hosting and co-location facilities which cannot be found elsewhere in the region. At the campus core stand three highly secure International Data Centers (“IDC”) I, II & III providing a total 13,000 square feet of conditioned space.

The facility is designed and maintained in accordance with best IDC industry practice, offering flexible and highly reliable data hosting environments suitable for high capacity data servers and application hosting, housed in a standard raised floor hot and cold aisle environment. Besides hosting a myriad of e-commerce web hosting tenants, the facility is also home to telecom carriers POP’s, the Caribbean Internet Exchange (CAR-IX), and many other telco and data hosting clientele. In addition to the data centers, there is a 30,000 square ft. office facility that is designated by the Dutch Antilles Government as an international free trade zone (“E-Zone”) with preferential features such as 2% corporate tax and other benefits to qualifying foreign entities. An additional 3,000 square feet is dedicated to customer Business Continuity, fully fitted with desks, terminals and phones etc., ready for Customer rapid deployment in case of emergency.

Other aspects that truly differentiate ECP facilities include; superior network connectivity with access to diverse international subsea telecom networks that land into this telecom corridor of ECP Curacao, including 4 diverse subsea network gateways owned and operated by Columbus. Access to the islands largest digital content delivery platform is available at the FLOW Curacao cable TV digital head end, housed and secured inside IDC II. All facilities are protected with biometric security access and continuous video surveillance, Fire detection and suppression with very early warning aspirating smoke detection (VESDA) and Energen O-zone friendly fire suppression. All critical infrastructure including cooling HVAC and UPS power systems are fully redundant 1+1 protected and backed up with five 400kW diesel generators, fed by three 5,000 gallon underground fuel storage tanks, enabling ECP to be entirely self-sufficient without commercial power for extended periods if necessary.
